The Fundraiser

Marcus and Biff's attempt to circumnavigate Tierra del Fuego is a fundraiser for the kayaking chapter of the NYC based "Achilles Track Club".

Since August of 2009, Marcus has worked with amputees and blind athletes from the Achilles Track Club to prepare for the New York Mayor's Cup, a 29 mile kayak race around Manhattan held anually in October.

In September 2009, expedition-friend and Achilles volunteer Gary W. started raising funds for the purchase of kayaks and paddling gear with a joint goal of having the Achilles athletes compete the Mayor's Cup in fast, seaworthy double kayaks; and providing the necessary tools to continue the kayaking program after the October 19th Mayor's Cup race.

Based off their experiences as volunteers / peer-athletes with the Achilles kayakers, Biff and Marcus made the decision to use their Tierra del Fuego 2010 sea kayak expedition to raise funds to help with the continuation of the Achilles kayaking program.
